  • Chamomile is widely known and often used as a calming herb. It’s is a perfect addition to any tea blend.
  • Lemon Balm is a wonderful plant that helps aid in lifting depression and sadness. Along with lifting spirits, it promotes a healthy heart.
  • St. John’s Wort is an effective herb to ease stress and depression. It has proven to promote healing, but it may take a few weeks to show the benefits. You can take this as a tincture, tea, or capsule.
    • Note: While considered safe, St. John’s Wort can interact with specific medications and cause sensitivity to light in fair-skinned individuals.
  • Catnip is a great calming herb. While catnip is often associated with making cats go wild, it has a soothing effect on humans. In humans, it helps relax your mind and enhance your mood. It is also a great herb for your digestive system.
  • Skullcap is a powerful herb one can take to calm your mind. Skullcap directly supports your nervous system, buy easing both anxiety and stress.
  • Valerian root helps relieve stress and also promotes restful sleep. You can prepare this herb as a tincture, capsule, or tea. It does have an unpleasant smell, and some prefer to take in a capsule or powder form.
  • Kava Kava is great for calming the nervous system. It provides relief against anxiety and muscle pain. For best results, take Kava Kava in the form of a tincture.

  • Organic Chamomile
  • Organic St. John’s Wort
  • Organic Skullcap
  • Organic Catnip
  • Organic Lemon Balm
  • (Optional) Organic Valerian root at night to this blend can aid in getting restful sleep.

Other natural remedies for grief and heartache

Sunshine/vitamin D

Going into the direct sun has a positive impact on your mood. It is also associated with improved mental health. Increasing vitamin D or sun exposure can directly increase serotonin levels, which helps improve your mood.

Go outside

Going outside and moving your body can help lift your spirits. This doesn’t always need to be rigorous exercise. Simply taking a walk, visiting a park, or even gardening can assist in combatting feelings of sadness.

These enjoyable activities will help release endorphins, which will have positive mental health benefits.

Grounding

Grounding is the act of having direct contact with the earth and is a natural form of healing. 

In the 21st century, we are not as connected to the earth as we once were. Some note this negatively contributes to our well-being. Scientific studies reveal there are many benefits to grounding. Grounding has a positive impact on sleep, pain, mental and physical health. All are achieved by solely walking around barefoot outside and reconnecting with the earth.


Natural remedies are a perfect beginning in the healing process for someone experiencing loss or heartache. Enjoying a warm cup of tea can help bring a sense of calmness during difficult times.

Ingredients

  • 1 tsp Organic Chamomile
  • 1 tsp Organic St. John's Wort
  • 1 tsp Organic Skullcap
  • 1 tsp Organic Catnip
  • 1 tsp Lemon Balm

Instructions

  • Heat filtered water in a tea kettle. Add the herbs to a teapot, pour over hot water, and allow to steep for 10-15 minutes.

Notes

(Optional) 1 tsp. Organic Valerian root can be added to this blend at night to aid in restful sleep.
